Hi all- Help needed..
I am a newby keeper and one of my light Sussex's has now been firmly sat on some eggs for 14days.. I have moved her off a couple of brief times and am putting food in.. BUT what should I be doing ! - do I just let nature take its course ??? - What do I do IF she does hatch some off ?
General help please !
Regards
Peter

Only into my 2nd broody hatch myself (2 at the same time, each with 6 eggs) but will try to help. If she doesn't get off herself, keep lifting her off (taking care that no eggs are under her wings) to poo and eat each day till day 20, I leave to pop hole open all day just in case they feel like a stretch of legs but do shut them in a night.

I put water and mixed corn (was told mixed corn is best as it helps to warm them for incubating the eggs and they don't need layers as they aren't laying) near the nest for mine to be able to drink and eat when they feel like it.

Mine are in separate broody arks with runs - the other chooks will attack the chicks if not kept separate.

Other than that let nature take it's course, when the chicks hatch mum will do everything that is needed - all you have to do is make sure that there is water (in shallow dish) and chick crumbs (layers pellets are bad for young chicks and mum will be ok on chick crumb) for them. Then sit back and enjoy Laughing
