You might have to give it a hand. Either that or have the possibility of it dying in the shell because it can't get out. (not trying to panic you!) Or you could give it a bit longer. Difficult decision. Confused

Very carefully crack a tiny bit of shell at a time. If there's any blood stop immediately & put back in the incubator. The membrane may well be dried out so if you spray, be careful you don't drown the chick! Using a wetted cotton bud might be a better idea.

Good luck if you decide to give it a go. Wink

Embarassed I've already opened it up a bit, well about the size of a 50p (just the shell, not the membrane, thats only a hole about the size of a 5p) and will leave it alone until later on. At least I know it can breathe now.........

If you've got a shrink wrapped chick you're going to have to play midwife. Make sure the shrink wrap is well and truly dampened & see if you can 'roll' it off the chick's head. that should start it splitting naturally, and if there's no blood, carry on until the top half of the chick is wrap free, then pop it back for half an hour or so. It should then free itself, but if not, you may have to ease it almost out. At that point I leave it to finish because if it still can't, it's never going to do well.
Mojo - don't yell at me, but I've had some little beasties for whom this is their only chance of survival. Those I have left too long after being sure they have their noses out, just die, despite dampening the membrane.

Embarassed thats exactly what I had to do Henwife..... any how, its out now and cheeping but its feathers seem to be glued to its body, despite it being dry Confused How long until they become fluffy? Its got very strong legs too..... Do I leave it in the inc over night as its the only one hatched (til the next batch do on Friday/Saturday) before moving to a brooder or can I leave it in the inc inside a plastic carton with food and water until the others begin to hatch??? Oh god, bring back lambing all is forgiven Rolling Eyes

It needs nothing for 24 hours, so you can leave it in the incubator to dry out. It's cheaping will encourage the others, so good to leave it there. Once it is dry, tomorrow, move it to brooder with shallow water and chick crumb.
Hope it dries out...it takes a while.
Bon chance Very Happy

Chicks dont need food for 48hrs after hatching, so he'll be fine left in with the others.
