loubielou , that hen house is fine providing you keep to the 2-3 hens maybe 1 more in that hen house .
Most of the time you get what you pay for , my first house was a Forhsam Ark , they are top dollars TBH , but mines as good as the day i brought it .

The metal dropping tray on that one will save you hours over the years cleaning , and sure put a little newspaper on to soak the dropping and make it warmer inside for them .
I think you're very wise asking for opinions , but on forums there are many and you can soon get confused , it's up to you to make your mind up .

Good luck

Of course everyone has their favourite type of coop & lots have made their own or adapted what they have already.
You will always have differing opinions regarding every aspect of poultry keeping. If you ask for suggestions, expect to get lots!
Hopefully no one on the forum has any ill-feeling towards others who don't share the same opinions. Wink
It's difficult to put emotions into the written word, which is why some clever clogs invented the emoticons! It's amazing what a little smilie Very Happy can do to diffuse an awkward situation.

I'm sure no one was intentionally being rude loubielou. Wink

Thanks everyone, I appreciate your help. This is all very scary for someone who knows nothing about chickens, but would dearly love them and want to look after them properly. I hope you won't mind the dozens of other chicken 'maintenance' questions that will surely come to me Laughing !

Sorry, I come across as gruff, I don't mean to be.
If you need any help building your own please ask me for help.
I build and sell arks/housing but am only too happy to help you make your own.

I get a little animated about the chinese imported coops because ALL the ones I have seen are junk and the sellers over play the amount of hens they can fit in. AND they fall apart after a year or so.

All that is not even taking the carbon footprint into the equation or the enviromental impacts of irresponsible logging in china.

BUT they are cheap and they are pretty. So they sell and they sell well.

Hey, apology accepted! Very Happy

If you fancy quoting for building one like this for me, I would be very happy! I only want to keep 2-3 hens in my garden and not to have to free range them all the time, so I had hoped this size would be big enough? I also like the idea of the run having a roof, the sliding tray for cleaning out and having house off the ground, giving more run space, protection from rodents and ease of access. My email is shaddick@hallmarkcott.wanadoo.co.uk if you are able to give me a quote, hopefully we could discuss. Many thanks for your message!

Hi
Barny_velder is helping me by giving me a plan for my husband to build one for me,if you check my thread here about my mistake you will see the fantastic ark's he makes etc. Also i think seeing as you live some distance away the postage would be very high,so you would be better off building your own like i will be.

Well I've seen plenty of poor imitations but this one is the first I've seen that's actually a better design. If it had been around when I was buying a few years ago, I would definitely have been a customer. Smile

WOW, having looked on eBay I can see it's not so expensive after all...
People must be paying or they wouldn't be selling.
