I can't imagine them walking between flocks! Is it wild birds? Or do all chickens just have a few which can get out of control, like mammal fur mites?
Thanks

Wild birds spread them, they can and do "walk" a considerable way (obviously not miles) and they can also live for a long time without feeding, I don't know (someone else will) how long is a long time, but I would imagine a hen hut empty of birds for say six months will reinfest almost immediately once new birds are put in.
