we also use an tube of antibotic that goes up the milking duct with cows and goats there isn't one for sheep is there

I don't know Milkmaid, I am going to see the vet on Monday so will ask. She has had a long acting antibiotic jab that has been topped up every day - last one today. I also want to get some metacam for her, she had one jab from the vet and none since and it must be so painful for her!!! I've been using an iodised udder salve but quite like the sound of hot flannels - mind you it's cold and snowing at the moment so any ideas how to keep them hot between the kitchen and lambing shelter, a thermos maybe? I have been trying to get something out of her but neither the vet or farmer friend could as it's too hard.

Little one has had another 100ml bottle - think she's getting the idea, now all we need is for her to cotton on to where the milk bar is Laughing

the hot flannels tend to expand things the same as heating the back end of a chicken to help with egg binding
flask would work and it's nice and warm on cold hands Embarassed

Lovely lambs. I too this year had a lamb who just appeared to mess around at feeding, tried with a bottle which she looked as if she was chewing !
I tried molasses on the bottle teat first, lambs have a sweet tooth, then on mum. Now doesn't want top ups but did want molasses on mum a couple of times just a small bit does the trick Laughing

Ewe with mastitis isn't liking the hot flannels - will try again when i've got some metacam into her - her lamb is growing well so she must have enough in the other side.

Like the molasses idea helena - where do you get it from? Little girl is taking 5 x 100mls from the bottle spread over the day - not sure if this is too much or too little, am i guessing right that she wouldn't take it if she wasn't hungry?

Waiting for number 3 ewe to go pop now (due the 12th but udders are getting bigger and rear end pinker) - fingers crossed she and her lamb/s get it right from the start!!!!

5 X 100mls sounds fine, it doesn't sound like she's taking very much from mum
Bob is having 150ml every 4 hours, but he's really big,
he's made it into the house now Rolling Eyes

Vet came to see ewe with mastitis and said that the infection has gone, although she left me a couple of antibiotic jabs just to make sure, but she has a sore just at the top of the udder which is hurting her. Got some cream to put on it and she has had another anti-inflamitary jab. She has also, sadly, lost the use of the left udder so lets hope she doesn't have twins next year! Her lamb is blooming though thank goodness.

Vet checked the little one over and has pronounced her very small and cute but fighting fit. She thinks what i'm giving her is just about right but i may need to up it in a few days.

Before she left she asked when the other ewe was due, I said the 12th, she said I don't thinks so, more like this afternoon!! Things are beginning to happen as we speak - I'm going out to check every hour.

Well, I've been up and down all night but last ewe has changed her mind!!!!!! She has udders and is swollen but has decided her hay is more interesting Very Happy - think it will be today though!

Little girl has at last found out where the milk bar is - eureeka!!!! - she didn't take the full feed of the last 2 feeds yesterday and this morning her tummy was so full she couldn't fit any more in!!!!!

What with mastitis ewe now out of danger and my incubater decideding it will turn the eggs inside - which means I don't have to turn them myself - and the sun has come out Very Happy. Now we just have to keep fingers crossed all goes well with last ewe.
