Hi
I am trying to source a couple of young Leghorn Bantam Hens to keep my Black Leghorn Bantam Cockerel company, as he keeps slipping of the full sized hens and can't master the stepladder.
Would like and travel to pick-up:

hi
i managed to swap one of my cocks for a hen. the bloke i got her off couldn't remember how old she was other than no more than 2 years
her comb is lovely and red and has flopped over. is this any indication of age? if not is there anyway i can "guesstimate" her age. |

| Have a look at her legs. The scales are small and neat in their first year and by the end of the 2nd year much bigger and rougher. After that it is just a matter of looking at the whole bird and guessing old, older, oldest. |

Hi guys,
I'm new to this forum and wondered if anyone would be kind enough to give me some help and advice. We've kept different varieties of chickens for over 20 years now and at present I dont have any as I'm bunking at my parents until I move house at the end of next month . I'm really keen to get some blue leghorns and maybe some silver ones but seem to be having real difficulty in finding anyone who has them. Mum keeps white ones and a whole host of other different breeds (some havent laid an egg for donkeys years, and you know who you are........... ) I also had a pair of old english bronze turkeys but the fox got Josephine during the day and Napoleon wouldnt take to a new mate and eventually passed away of old age last year .
All help gratefully received,
Lisa |

I am soooooooooooo tired. I had a batch of eggs in inci and only 1 hatched. Never had such a bad hatch before so have never had the problem of a single chick!
It WON'T shut up!! Cheep cheep cheep day and night.
It is warm, it eats and drinks, it is healthy and growing. But it is LOUD to the nth degree. We are going insane with the cheeeping!
I have tried the mirror, the radio etc etc but I guess it is lonely
What can I do? I don't want to kill it it looks like a really nice bird. |

Can you find any same or similar age chicks near you? That would be the best bet but failing that you'll just have to try entertaining him/her!
Hang up a mop head for it to hide under. |

Hi Bronskibeat,
Kept chickens a long time but this year I bought some Blue Leghorn hatching eggs on ebay. The guy was called luckysi. Excellent hatching rate and have retained four nice blues. They are now 7 weeks old so can't say a lot other than that they are very nervy and, to me, very beautiful (a real pale, unlaced blue).
The thing that I noticed on ebay is that there are both Blue Leghorns and Lavender Leghorns but in most cases they are all being sold as Blue Leghorns. So if you go down that route then be clear what it is you want and then clear what you bid for. I wanted mine to cross into my Minorcas to get Blue Minorcas so buying Lavender Leghorns would have been a disaster. |

Hi Hen-Gen,
I too purchased 6 blue leghorn eggs off ebay from DragonPoultry. They are currently 3 days into incubation so I'll let you know what happens!! Yes, I have seen the blue and the lavender, trouble is, not everyone shows pics of their own birds.............. I got caught out with buying full grown slate turkeys in the same way, very expensive lesson to learn (not bought off eBay I hasten to add) the stag is either lavender or a red slate and god knows what the 2 hens are, but they arent blue thats for sure!! |
