Roughly 66 confirmed cases pre Christmas, the rest post Christmas detected due to blood testing pre movement. They were all infected before the vector free period.

On Sunday my farming friends vaccinated their sheep & cows with the Bluetongue vaccine.
You have to administer it within 8 hours of opening the bottle, so it was a fairly mammoth task & they're not a large farm either!

Whether it was a coincidence or not we don't know, but after the calves were done they went a bit hyper! They charged up the field & straight on through the fence.
My friends spent the rest of the day searching for them, rounding them up & returning them home. They didn't get to bed until well after midnight & there's still 1 missing, presumed dead. Sad

Oh no, thats not good Sad There is quite a bit on the farmtalk pages about vaccination and possible side affects and also on the British Farming Forum. Apparently, some AH offices want to know any odd behaviour/problems related to vaccination, other AH offices dont want to know........ no change there then!! I would suggest they look at farmtalking forum, there is a link to the vaccine manufacturers where you can report things like this. They do keep stressing the vaccine is dead and so it should be 100% fine, no problems and that they have thoroughly field tested it and found no ill effects but as I know only too well, different animals react in different ways to drugs Crying or Very sad Twisted Evil
