Oh bless!!

Well, we were woken at 1am by our border collie, Bess, barking to alert us to something amiss. That "something amiss" was the snow!! It had changed how things looked, and she was obviously bothered about it. All it took was MOH calling out to her "good girl Bess, that'll do now, back to bed", and we didn't hear another peep out of her all night!!

It's kind of thawing now, but it's also snowing again.

Ours are out pecking about in it quite happily, the younger ones tried to fly over it out of the houses at the weekend when it first appeared but now seem to have accepted it, the Shetlands are not bothered at all. They go back into their houses when it actually snows but don't mind the stuff that is lying.

We had lots of snow last weekend. We were snowed in for two days. The chickens didn't venture out in to the blizzards, but seemed quite happy to go outside once it'd stopped.

Although they did spend a lot of time sitting on the manure pile which is currently generating about 50°C heat so they aren't that stupid.

The snow was very helpful as it let me see not only where the chickens go but who visited our property in the night. I couldn't find any fox tracks luckily, but plenty of rabbit, pheasant and deer. It also appears that our cat circled the coop a couple of times.
