I have purchased some cream legbars today, been totally ripped off, but i felt sorry for them, so in essence i've purchased a rescue case. Their claws are mishaped, and no weight on them, i presume they are in bred. The cockeral comb is very much to one side and not straight, does this happen in legbars? or is it another rubbish breed example. and 2 of the hens seem much redder than the others can you have various shades? i suppose i'l not know if those 2 are true until they start laying.

I dont normally buy rubbish bred things, but i felt so sorry them, i just had to take them home! but then again i'm just encouraging them to breed more.

also does anyone know what to feed to make the shade of eggs darker, i know what egg colour they produce is genetic, but i've heard you can feed to enhance egg colour

Don't know about dietary "aids" to egg colour, not heard this before. Mine lays beautiful blue eggs, and she free-ranges.

The hen's combs certainly flop to one side ... I've not noticed much of a one-sidedness to the coq's comb, think that's fairly straight.

Colours - if yours are not the same as the ones I've mentioned in my post above, they're not true CLBs. There are lots of crosses around, and very few pure CLBs around now, which is a shame as they're beautiful birds.

The confusion may be that diet does effect egg colour, ie the yolk, but not usually shell colour.
Large combed breeds such as Leghorns, Minorcas, Legbars etc in the males have floppy combs if they are malnourished, vermin-ridden etc. As health is restored the comb usually resumes its normal shape.

Went to a local auction today - farm bits etc... - and there were loads of birds for sale. There were loads of cockerels and loads of birds that had severe cases of scaly leg mite - saw a couple of lovely Barnvelders that i may have "rescued" but both had leg mite and, being free from it up to now, I don't want to introduce it here. There was one cage full of birds that i just had to ask what they were, the reply was "Cream Legbars" a voice behind said "Bulls**t". I left before a fight broke out but when I went backand looked later you could say that maybe thay had CLB in them but no tufts and each one was different - also they were hens BUT out of the 4 in the cage 3 had what looked like small spurs!!!! I am not convinced mine is a "full" CLB even though she lays blue eggs and has the tuft - as for my Cotswold LB, who knows!

Don't know whether I can post this here but apparently I am not allowed to start a new topic. I want to get two more Cream Legbar hens but can't find anywhere in or near north Cambs for point of lay hens. Any ideas anyone?

Hi,

have recently hatched some eggs and these chickens (now 10 weeks old) although from blue eggs do not look like CLBs to me - anyone offer any advise on what they are please?

They are not a breed that I recognise. they are probably legbar crosses, What were the eggs described as?

Definitely the wrong colour for pure-bred CLBs.

Hi All,
You all seem to be CLB experts so i have a query for you!
I bought a CLB off a good friend who just breeds as a hobby and she has been laying about 3 weeks alltogether.
She has laid two eggs for me so far but they are white!
I have seen the parents and their eggs, and her siblings are laying blue eggs!
Just wondered if there could be any reason for this and if/how long will it take for her to lay blue eggs?

I'm trying to move pairs if I can rather than POL - which I dont have anyway - mine are about 3 months old now

Interested to hear youre in Camberley - so am I - where are you and what else do you have in your flock? Do you ever have hatchings for example?
