Sparklepeeps,

I loved your egg boxes, and the inside was great. I have been planning on doing similiar, but, just never got around to it. I put a photo of all my girls on the outside of my boxes, but eventually, the boxes got tatty & I never renewed them.

Are your pink boxes 'new', and are they going to be your trade mark, I don't think I've seen pink before!

My £2.00 a box lady gave me her feed back today, she was so chuffed saying they were most definately the best she's ever had. I write the girls names on the eggs, (when I'm sure who laid which), and she loved that aspect too. Its a boon to be covering feed costs when the egg laying is good, but dont forget the winter can bring many mouths to feed, with few eggs in return... and then theres the pooh, .. I reckon 9 chooks for me is my max, just make sure you think thoroughly on increasing your flock.

Well done with your egg sales, I love the chook bank. Very Happy

Jaydee, can we have a picture of your boxes please?

Bhindi... the pink egg boxes are sold here. Yes I bought them new, but I think I would buy blue egg boxes as well, as these would complement the colour of my eggs better I think. However I do like my pink ones. I think you idea of writing the chickens names on the egg is quite cute. What kind of pen do you use to write on them?

The poo issue with 9 hens might be my limit as well. I have certainly noticed the difference in how quickly the sack of food disappears with 6 hens as apposed to 4!

Well today I proudly took another box of 6 in, for which I was paid a measley 60p! Oh well, another day, another dollar!

Like most things, if you ask someone to pay what they think, you will have some that over pay, other who will know the price and pay whats about right, others who haven't a clue about the price of anything (like me the wife shops so she will know) so someone thought 10p an egg, and put 60p in but don't beat yourself to death about it, you will probably come out on top in the long run, theres a guy with a road side cafe i used to use, he did the same you pay what you think is right or what you want to pay, almost everyone paid over the odds, swings and roundabouts, the only way you can stop it happening is to put a minimum price down, so its some kind of a guide, but then you will probably find you wont get much more than that from everyone

I reuse egg boxes - my dad has a lucky egg box that he has had eggs in every week for 4 years! I has a bit of tape on it but it's still going. The only new boxes I've ever had came from George as thanks for hatching eggs I sent him.

Thanks S'peeps for the pink link..

I use pencil on the eggs, and I also write the date as well as their names, so people know which to use first. Pencil doesnt show up very well on my dark brown eggs, but it can be seen if you get the right angle Very Happy

Thats a shame, about 60p for your eggs today, what planet did that buyer come from..

My Geoff is managing to take a couple of boxes a week to his office, he just told them the price had gone up, last year they were paying £1. but now there paying £1.50 (for 6), in return for the hefty increase, they are all getting at least 3 beutifull brown eggs, no one has grumbled because they know what eggs are costing in the shops now, but as mentioned earlier, many people just have no idea, even some people at my works, when I said pay what you think there worth, they struggled with that, as they had absoloutly no idea what they were currently paying... I know within a few pence everything I buy what it costs, I couldn't imagine going shopping without that knowledge.

great egg box label. i too sell eggs at £1.00 per 1/2 doz and i make my labels with the help of the pka software.but would not pay £16.00 for 100 sticky labels in partners so a4 paper and a pritt stick works for me . but then add the price of ink on your printer and time as well and i think people are getting a good deal from your eggs so well done. Very Happy
p.s what software you using for your labels with your ladys on. if you want you can send a template out to us all and we can add pics of our own birds .i am sure the good deed will be returned somehow. Very Happy

Lovely packaging S-Peeps, did you design your own labels and, if so, how? I am not registered either but have a sign that says Free range eggs by the gate - like you i will plead ingnorance Laughing - and sell them for £1.50 per doz. I take them to Welsh class and WI (I'm the youngest there - honest Laughing ) and also sell to neighbours and passers by. I notice you say to use within 16 days on your box, is there a reason for that? When I spoke to DEFRA about selling to friends etc. I was told that I could but a) I couldn't grade them and b) I had to put a use by date of 3 weeks from lay, nothing was said about not putting Free Range on any sign.

Oh Sparklepeeps I LOVE your stuff!!
I would definitely buy them - and I don't even need eggs!!

Did you make the labels? If so, where did you get the blanks?

I love your idea of who laid what - very clever!

I like your egg box Jaydee! Very nice, are they your eggs in the photo? I am particularly impressed with the sticker! Very impressive .

Ah, yes. I know its 3 weeks, but because I only have 6 hens, and not all of them lay every day, it takes me a few days to save enough eggs up for a few boxes. Therefore I have reduced the 3 weeks down by 5 days. Make sence? Wink

I just used Windows Powerpoint, I use it for everything as its so easy to play around with images and fonts (Word is absolutely rubbish!). Of course you are welcome to the template, just PM me. I also use A4 and pritstick, I would love to get them printed properly next time my local printers have a half price sale, (but I sort of pilfered the photo on the front Embarassed ) ...but to be fair I did email them and ask if I could buy the photo, but they said they didnt have the facilities to sell it to me). I altered my chickens pictures using 'paint' to erase the background around the chicken.

Love the packaging, you must tell me how you did it, being a bit of a computer dunce! details please!!

My only critisism is that I'm sure you cant use the term free range as it carries the same strict codes that the term organic carry, unless you are certified free range of course! You can use other phrases to convey free range but not that term......
