Mojo, do you mean you can't put free range on the box unless you are licensed? Hmmm why is that? Viv

I've got a nasty feeling that applies in the UK too, doesn't it? You can say "from hens that roam freely over X amount of land", but like Organic, I think Free Range is a specific ...

Happy to be corrected if I'm wrong Wink

Thanks for your replies.

Well, I am pleased to report that they were super HOT cakes! I popped in the back of the surgery and left them in the kitchen whilst I was out on my daily rounds this morning, nobody saw me, and it seemingly caused quite a stir in the surgery whilst everyone was trying to work out where they had just 'appeared' from! There was a note left on my money box which said 'Who are you? and can we have some more!'. I am now known as 'The Egg Lady!' Rolling Eyes Great!

I have a waiting list!

Well Bhindi's 'Take what you want, pay what you want' trick really works! Considering I was only going to ask 80p a box originally, my money box had £4 in it when I collected it (for 3 boxes of eggs), so I made £1.60 more than I had expected. Fantastic.

I hadnt realised that! Can I plead ignorance? You see 'Free Range' signs pinned up all over the countryside, and often even when its obvious that its just a small affair and not a commercial venture. Oh dear, I will have to pay this some consideration. Thanks for the tip!

Gorgeous packaging Very Happy I'm like you and love to see multicoloured eggs, hence why I have a motley collection of birds (small at present but with plans to expand into khaki/olive eggs as well lol) I'm inspired, but I'd have to be careful selling mine at work with labelling like yours as 2 of my hens are named after work colleagues without their knowledge Surprised
I don't know about the free range labelling, but I can't imagine it would be a problem for you just having an honesty box at work...someone would have to complain, and why would they do that when they have such beautiful cheap eggs?

Sweet!! Laughing

Don't get too many all at once if you can't cull birds. You could end up with a geriatric non-laying population and no more space to bring in young birds to provide income to support the old folks. Wink
Most years, a friend of mine gets a few new birds late in the year. Her timing means she gets some eggs through the winter too.

Yes, very good pont there! I have wondered that, because one of my exbatt hens hasnt layed in about 6 months! I wont be getting the newbies until June. Maybe I should only get 2, that way I can get another 2 (which would then take me up to full hen house capacity) next year.

Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy licence to get whatever birds you want; how wonderful!
My husband has also agreed to a flock expansion this year so that we can start selling eggs. I've found a nice person in Wales who is going to hatch me some Cream legbar/cuckoo maran x pullets to hopefully produce the khaki eggs I so desperately want. If you manage to find a source of LF Croad Langshans from a strain which lay nice plum-coloured eggs then please let me know, I've been looking out for some for months without success. Also, let me know how the Coral eggs look Smile they sound interesting, too!

Ive just made an ebay purchase!

A money box that you can only open with a tin opener. I am going to put ALL my egg money away from wandering fingers (i.e. MINE!), I am going to save up for a broody coup.

How long do you think it will take before I am trying to empty it with a knife?
