DEFRA bluetongue announcement expected to confirm new cases on Monday
DEFRA is expected to make an announcement on Monday which will confirm
new cases of bluetongue in Shropshire and Cheshire.
A source close to DEFRA told Farmers Weekly that the cases which had
been discovered in the last few days were not believed to have been
found in imported animals, suggesting the animals had been infected by
UK midges carrying the disease.
It is not yet known what affect the new cases will have on the
movement regulations currently in place, but it could mean the
extension of the protection zone into Wales and further towards the
south west of England, possibly as far south as Bristol.
It will also have an impact on vaccination plans, with more farmers
likely to be in the zone due to receive vaccine first. This could have
serious consequences for virus control this spring and summer.
More news will follow as we receieve it. |

no, they havent tendered yet. They are of the opinion that if and when BTV appears in Scotland, the temperature will be such that no transmission will occur so they are OK to wait and order for next year.
Talk about sand, bury and heads
I too will have no internet for a while now so take care everybody, will pop in now and again when back over at Mum and Dads for the time being.
Bye |

thanks Welsh Duck thats made my day xx
thanks for the support guys, sheep now moving in on Tuesday (unless I'm snowed in......)
well, I get a phone on Friday but still no news on broadband it only took 2 full days to sort out the reconnection so I'm not holding my breath...........
Thanks, yes it was very much phew I can tell you!! Blimmin DEFRA, the BTV helpline had been hijacked by "Womens Land Army badges" requests so they knew absolutely nothing about the suspected outbreaks.
Still, good news was, as DEFRA hadnt updated their website, all restrictions currently in place stood until further notice. Nice to see DEFRA have their priorities right, you can imagine the scenario if it had been a suspected F&M outbreak couldnt you..... all movements carrying on around the country, but dont worry, DEFRA havent heard anything so it wouldnt dare infect anywhere until they were up to speed
Sorry, rant over
Signing off, next installment monday evening |
