Oil prices are just ridiculous. Twisted Evil

When we moved here nearly 14 years ago it was 9p a litre plus VAT.
The last time we filled our tank was in August 2006 & it was nearly 35p! And we have a 2000 litre tank...! Shocked

I dread to think how much it is now.......... Twisted Evil

Look at heat pumps as well, while you're thinking about it...

Oil is horribly expensive and getting worse. We daren't not have the radiators on in rooms we use little as old houses get damp, hence the low constant temperature.
No, the energy bods were nothing to do with the listed building status - just that having once come top of the list when random energy checks were being done, I think they pass on our address to each other to see what they can make of it. We can always refuse to have them, but it's rather fun!

My house has 2 ft thick walls as well, once its warm it stays warm, but go away and let it cool down it takes about 2 days to warm back up

my heating and hotwater is run from the multifuel stove in the front room, it used to be off the kitchen aga till that died Confused

it has it's own backboiler and will burn wood, coal and peat
we have 6 radiators running off it and it gets really hot. The only problem is in the summer we have hardly any hot water, there is an immersion heater as well but the hot water tank is tiny

we have storage heaters as well but they are way too expensive to use,
two of them get used for about a month a year
I'm planning a small potbellied stove for my room before next winter - thats the coldest side of the house and it will warm up lucy's room (above) as well

The central heating seems to harbour alot of germs so we only turn the odd radiator on and use an open fire now .
Plus the CH seems to dry the atmosphere also Rolling Eyes

Tarka, what age is your house? If you've got open fires, the CH shouldn't dry the atmosphere, and certainly shouldn't harbour germs. Now air conditioning is another matter.......We rarely used it in the middle east & were healthier than many other ex-pats.

If thats a 'Clear View' its the one we have only with the flat top. It's fantastic and it heats the whole house. We have got oil heating but never turn it on. The flue from the log burner goes up through our bedroom and thats more than enough heat for us Very Happy

Its the Clearview 750, and we have the option to add back boiler if we feel we need to next winter. We're hoping it will heat up alot of the house, but the house is 160sqm, so 3 times bigger than the house we had in Devon.

It's about 60 years old but im convinced as soon as the CH goes on we all pick colds up every winter within 3 days , so try and only use the odd radiator now and then use the open fire .
