Hello!

My name is Melissa, and I live in Northeast Illinois. I have wanted chickens for years, not so much for our dinner plate, but because I have always found them to be delightfully charming, and, fresh eggs are the BEST!
I have gotten the McMurray hatchery catalog for a good year, but, didn't want to commit to 25 chicks right off the bat!

I found an ad in the local paper offering chicks and ducklings, and ventured to the middle of nowhere in search of the farm.

1.5 hours later, I arrived home with my two new 'pullets', Kate, a Rhode Island Red, and Christina, a Plymouth Rock. They are approx. 5 wks old, about the size of pigeons. They reside in a 2X4 tall sided Rubbermaid container on our back porch for now, and enjoy the sunshine and bugs in our dog's old crate during the day, although a 'chicken palace' is in the works!

I look forward to getting to know all of you, and will certainly be asking a million and one questions as we go along!

Welcome Melissa. You'd better make that palace bigger than you think you will ever need - you may well end up with far more than you plan! lol! They are addictive.
