| A friend of mine has pheasants she hand raised after they were htched under a hen. They wander her garden and the surrounding area - very strange to see them when you are driving past. Beautiful birds - very fast chicks. CongHATCHulations. |

I don't know how to raise them, but our local feed store has some of the chicks in. I am VERY tempted, but right now I can not assume resposibility for anymore. |

Aw, lovely pics & cute chicks!
Silly question time What do you do with home reared pheasants? Do they lay eggs like chickens? Are they to keep, or, erm.... will they be invited to dinner |

Over here....they tend to collect the eggs to sell for incubation, raise up enough to use on game farms for hunting and well, yes, they are invited to the dinner table. |

Because these chicks are as a result of an emergency rescue of the eggs after a dog got the hen pheasant, the 'what are we going to do with them?' is still under debate.
The intention is to invite them to dinner, or even take them out to our neighbour's French Restaurant. However, now that you come to mention it, I wonder about keeping a pair and selling the hatching eggs. With these being bred in the wild, I am not sure of the wisdom of such a plan. Also I wonder if there are legalities over the selling of hatching eggs, though I suppose technically they will not be eggs from wild birds.
We are playing a bit of a 'wait and see' game as they could be quite a handful to keep. |
