Fox just tripped across the patio a couple of feet away from us, setting the security light off and putting it into full view. It disappeared, returned again and had a scratch in full view. By which time me and the cat were at the french windows watching. It looked us both straight in the eye for some time, then turned and headed straight up the garden to the chickens Rolling Eyes .

Lovely seeing it so close.

Now! I am absolutely sure that foxy visits every night, and tonight is only different because he just happened to have set the security light off. I am desperate to get down the garden and check the efficency of the electric fence. But just picked up the torch ONLY to find that OH has run the battery to nothing getting the christmas tree out of the loft, and hasnt charged it back up again! Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad (we are currently not talking to each other now!!! Laughing )

The irony of this is that I was allowed to finish my weekend shift at lunch time today, I came home, checked on the girls and saw my little reliable egg laying Araucana OUTSIDE of the electric fence Shocked ! I had no idea that she could fly with her wings clipped. She was very distressed and deserate to get back inside the coup. If I had finished work at the right time I might not have even checked on them in the dark, and she would have been a gonner! Lady Luck has smiled on me today! So I shall count my lucky stars and make it up with OH Rolling Eyes

That was a close shave Sparklepeeps. You do only trim one side of the hens feathers don't you?.. maybe you haven't trimmed enough?

Yep, only one side. I noticed one who was in the process of regrowing her feathers after a moult needs to be trimmed again. I checked Hazel's wing, it looks reasonable so I was very surprised, this is the first I knew about her abilities!

We clipped the wings of our two buff Orpies when we first had them. It had very little effect other than when they flew it was always in an arc!
