Hi, this has been posted on another forum and I thought it would be worth repeating it here

Quote:
This is not really for here but I'm hoping for your help. I have a small flock of pet sheep and in 3 recent attacks by 2 local dogs, 4 of them have been killed and one lamb badly injured. We know who owns the dogs and were shocked to find the police cannot impound them until after a successful court case, which could take months. All my poultry were killed a few weeks before and we thought it was foxes. Now I'm not so sure as the dogs were seen last week trying to get me new 6 hens in their VERY secure pen. A single horse in the next field ran through a post and wire fence and has ripped his leg open. No witnesses unfortunately. The owner of the dogs refuses to do anything about them despite interviews under caution. Even if these dogs attack a child the law does not allow the police to take them without the owners permission. I have set up a Downing St petition and if it gets 200 signatures it goes before a minister.

A kind person has offered our sheep a home in their small field and we have no idea when it will be safe for them to return home. Your support would be hugely appreciated.

It now has over 200 signatures (including mine) but they would still like plenty more.

thanks

AFAIK Farmers are well within their rights to shoot any dog that's worrying their stock.

My friends had to shoot 2 last year despite giving the owner several warnings. And then they had the b***s to try prosecuting them for killing their dogs! It came to nothing, but the hassle & annoyance it caused wasn't nice. Sad

if you give official notice
(ie a newspaper ad warning that after a previous attack any dog found harrassing your sheep will be shot)
then you are covered
