Please does anyone know for certain, when a recipe says baking soda, is that baking powder or bicarbonate of soda?

bicarb.

You can use baking powder instead of baking soda but not the other way around as it makes things taste funny.

oh - but not if you need it to go bubbly! sorry, I think baking powder won't work if you're looking to make honeycomb or something like that Sad

if it says soda not paking powder i would use bicarb what is it your making maby someone will no what they use in that recipy if they have made it before

It's in a biscuit recipe - I tried both (in different batches of biscuits) but couldn't actually tell if there was a difference! I was just interested to know what they meant by baking soda as I hadn't met the term before.

btw, many thanks for the information - will write it in my recipe book!
