They are black mottled it works on a similar principle to the jubilee Orp with the recessive mottle gene. These are from Peter Heywood Who is the president of the Cochin club!

Hi Neal, back here in britain they are refered to as Pekins! Everyone else in the chickineering world refers to them as Bantam Cochins. The british poultry standards started refering to them as Pekins in the early to mid 70's.
My wife is from Jersey, and her sisters visit us here in Worcester and travel to france, so stay in touch and we could sort out some large fowl cochin hatching eggs in the future!!

This is my family and despite lavishing lots of tlc and chat on them, nearly three weeks into their new home and not an egg in sight, despite the fact that four of them are women. Ho hum.....maybe when it warms up a bit.

Brahmas are larger, as to egg production, not too sure but as my 2 cochins have only laid a total of 2 eggs in 6 weeks, I'd hope the Bramhas do better!! Laughing Laughing

I have both cochin and brahma and both are huge!!! but I would say the cochin are bigger not much at all between them size wise. My cochin lay almost every day and so does the brahma but at the moment she is broodie and sat on a load of eggs as at the moment only the one columbian buff brahma but got a trio of black cochin show winners which I have only had about 6wks. Have got a pair of same colour brahma arriving soon so will have a trio. Also have a doz blue partridge brahma due to hatch on 9th june cannot wait!!!

Hi

I just bought 3 young Cochins from Auction only paid £6.00 for the 3 (2 blue and 1 black) they are SO CUTE Very Happy . It didnt say how old they are but i would say about 8-10 weeks old. When i go into the pen they come running over, and they are so tame, just put my hand down and pick one up.

My son (aged 11) thinks its marvellous that he can actually go into one of the pens and pick a chicken up without them moving on.
