Knowing the supermarkets, probably no change whatsoever at the checkout. The hard times will be passed to the suppliers, not the consumers.

Call me cynical, but I can't see the leopard changing it's spots just yet.

i work in a supermarket Rolling Eyes
i don't work in the bread deptment ,but i do know that flour has gone up,breads gone up
most of our prices are rising i help change the tickets and so far it's been a rise of between 10 and 20 pence but some prices are up 30 pence , i must admit people haven't really noticed ,but barley in our feed merchents is now 8.75
sheep crunch 8.75 up from 6.50
i asked the price of goat feed and that is now £10 per bag from 7.80
most people i know are trying to cut down on their livestock
6 eggs sellers have given up on the island ,at 7.75 per bag of pellets Shocked
if there isn't meat or grain there it will go to the highest price ,
mind you it doesn't mean it'll go into farmers takings ,but too many will go under this year ,2 people at nonies course pulled out because they couldn't afford to go ,

Yes it is extremely worrying with the pedigree sales about to kick off. I agree that many people will cut down on numbers kept, thats what I'm having to do and that will have a knock-on effect on the breed prices (if you are actually lucky enough to sell them in the first place that is Pray ) Animal feed prices are up by nearly a 1/3 whereas the live commodity is currently running at peanuts Evil or Very Mad
Oh well, self sufficiency here I come........... then its going to be every dog/cat/sheep/chicken/cow/pig for itself Laughing Laughing

Bluefaced Leicesters so, (unlike me Laughing Rolling Eyes) are not cheap to keep....

The next nail in the coffin is that the isolation units that most of us have had in place since 2001, are no longer allowed and we have 20 day standstill in place (cussing cussing cussing.................Silenced excuse me, bout of very bad language Whistle) so as the pedigree sales (about 15 scheduled) are all cramped in at about 2 days apart from one another up to the 27th Oct, WHAT THE ******* **** are we supposed to do if we dont manage to sell every sheep at the first or subsequent sales............
Yet more bad language............. Embarassed we have an upset price of £100 on our breed so we are well and truly b******* if there are no bids.......
Bleeping DEFRA!!!!!

Thats where I"m moving to at the end of the month........ Good on them for helping the Welsh farmers. At least some of the devolved Govs are pro farming.......
The sales prices are serious. I've got isolation units but they are only eligible for tups, not ewes Confused Confused Confused Is F&M gender specific then......... news to me. Just crazy that they wont sanction isolation for females too, what are we supposed to do if we dont sell a female at the first sale and have to bring her home? May as well stick them all in the slaughter markets. What a waste Evil or Very Mad

i have heard better prices in other places
the electric man went home from our sales said

he was expecting worse
if you have good sheep and not hill sheep it's easier ,when he sold his at the sale

our electric man is also the local main sheep judge
he always comes to read the meter and i ask him to nose at the sheep at the same time Wink

Ooooh thats sneaky Laughing Laughing Laughing but very enterprising Wink next door to me kept Hebs and had a really nice flock but for similar reasons to whats going on now, swopped them for Poll Dorsets and she also has Jakes which she shows. I liked the Hebs, they looked really lovely in the Autumn sun with the leaves on the field.
Best of luck with your sales!
