| My hedgerows are dripping in sloes, apart from sloe gin, anyone got any good recipes to stop them going to waste? |

We were set to gather some sloes after the first frost this year but the hedge has been decimated by one of those tractor strimmer things & now there's hardly any left within reach! Really annoyed!
Last year we made sloe gin & vodka.
Haven't tried making jam since my last effort with blackberries (many years ago) ended up like concrete! |

I haven't seen any sloes around here for ages - but we have masses of Rosehips on our Rosa Rugosa & pears - the wet weather earlier has seemed to cause loads of fruit on everything |

Sloe & crab apple jelly is good - as is elderberry and crab apple, or ordinary apple for that matter if there are no crabs, jelly is a somewhat wasteful process, but if the fruit is freely available then nothing is more satisfying than some bright sparkling ruby jelly on toast on a winters morning (and you will have more than your fair share of those )
