| We live on the edge of a farm so we had rats before chickens! We,ve bought some eradi-rat ( not harmful to birds) But the rats haven't touched it! Any suggestions? Anyone else tried it? |

We tried Eradirat but didn't find it worked that well. Maybe OK as a preventative but not if you already have an infestation (as we did. )
We got some bait stations in the end, baited them with Roban wax blocks, which worked a treat. Not seen a rat or any signs for at least a year, just mice instead!
We still keep them all baited & check them once a week just in case. We also have snap traps for the mice & we catch at least 1 a night. |

I use Neosorexin Gold, and put it in a length of drainpipe (rats love a pipe) with the poison away from the ends so nothing else can get it - works a treat. I tried snap traps (for the rats) but eventually ran out of plasters for my thumbs so I gave that one up.

I hate snap-traps, too ! We use humane traps ... but baited with poison-bait!! The idea is that the rodents will go in to eat the bait, and die in there, so we only have to bag-and-bin the bodies. Nothing else can get to eat the bait (we've even fixed the cage-style traps to a solid (but liftable) base to be sure on this), and equally important, nothing can eat the then-poisoned rodents. |

well our chooks are in the middle of our field and you guessed it we got rats!we tried different poisens before when a local poultry keeper moved his chickens they moved into everyones back gardens so we tried humane trap, snap trap, garden centre poisens but nothing worked the humane trap caught one but in the end we bought glue traps of e-bay they worked a treat,we camped up our field the other night and we could here the chicken wire rattling so put our torch on and there were about 6 of them in there! so we have set a different quick trap again caught one but now they know what it is they will not go into it so back to the glue traps im afraid we are going to stop up there this weekend and set a few in there (need to remove them before wild birds etc can be caught on them or even pop them in a pipe so other animals cant access them)all we have to do is sit and wait and my hubby can dispose of them as they get caught then |

Well, not content with an infestation of redmite - seems we have an influx of rats again too.
There's a hole at the back end of the pond, near the wild bird table & also one tunneling into the area we have sectioned off for mum & 7 chicks of 9 weeks old.
We've baited the rat boxes so hopefully it will sort them out eventually. Oh, I hate them! |

Yes we're still poisoning rats too! And dealing with red-mite. Difficult to decide which I hate more! |

What's a glue trap? Do they get stuck on it or wasted on the fumes? |
