Hi there,
i should have about 500 lbs of pork next month as my 4 Oxford Sandy and Black pigs are nearing their finishing weight, so if anyone is interested in any please get in touch! I'm in Dorset.

hi nick just wondering how things are going i have only just read the post below about your venture with the pigs has there been a lot of interest?me and my husband are thinking of doing similar in the near future now we are slowly getting our land fenced properley. Smile

is it the first time you have reared weaners?me and my dh are going to be new to it all but have plenty of ground to start off with just wondered how much is involved in it all and if you have found it easy to find out how to get all the abbatoir stuff etc done and costs we received our pig information pack off the animal health dept at the council this morning so have two booklets to read through on the legislation etc and i have bought numerous books and videos on pig keeping and rearing to learn as much as i can before we commit to keeping them(we would also like some goats too when we have the time to look after them).

i am in south wales and am a little nervous as im not sure how much of a call there would be for the meat locally but we are right next to a city so i will be researching where and who to sell the meat to to be honest i have no idea where to start i was told there is an abbotir in usk but i am yet to contact them and discuss the process and what happens.but we would be lookingat using an outdoor system as we are still in the process of applying for planning for livestock housing.any advice would be appreciated.

wish you good luck and hope you manage to sell all you meat as everyones said its a shame your not closer. Smile

There's a small abbatoir at Raglan - I don't know about Usk.

thanks for that henwife i did not realize there was one there too i was told of one in usk i think it was in the yellow pages but will contact them for prices etc to see what they have on offer i have a funny feeling it may be the same people or i may of got the place wrong we still have a fair amount of fencing to do yet but once the fencing and clearing(where we have cleared so far this year is coming back with grass so really pleased) is there we will be ready hopefully by the end of this winter at the rate my husband is getting along with things we have been fortunate to have some help from an old freind of ours.we have invested in a large chest freezer now too Very Happy
