| Bought one blue pekin hen! Three years later and I am overrun with the gorgeous cute wee scones! I love them, they are THE characters of the poultry world, should have seen my friend@s cockerels "the three randies" treading her brown hybrids! They were like jockeys in a race hehehehehe It was brilliant! Mental birds, bigger cockerels didn't stand a chance |

Hi, I've been breeding poultry and waterfowl for about 20yrs. But since hubby died have sold all large and bantam breeds and only kept a few of my favourite Pekins.
Lemon Cuckoo, B&W Cuckoo and Blues.
I'm hoping to get/buy some fertile eggs of the other colours, as I now regret selling the other colours.
We also used to show our birds, and had one little Bantam Buff Orpington that a Judge offered us an open cheque to try and get us to sell to him, but we wouldnt sell the little chap.
Pekins are true bantams. Pekins originated in China, they were kept by the Emporer, and the story goes that someone stole a few of them and brought them to England, Queen Victoria kept Pekins too. Buff is the original colour, the other colours have been bred from the Buff, and the last few years new colours have been developed.
They're quite hardy little birds, but don't like draughts and shouldnt be kept on wet grass or muddy ground, as being feather footed can suffer from foot problems. |

Pekins are the easiest to hatch of all birds. They're determined to get out of the egg and start living.
Good luck with your hatch!
I've put in 30 mixed colours in my incubator today, plus one poot egg lol |

Strange question but do they make much noise as they lay? I love the look of the lemon cuckoo pekins, but have to consider my neighbours. Two of my hybrids are a trifle LOUD at laying time.
How often do they lay? And what colour are the eggs? |

I've got lavender adults and they lay creamy white eggs. Mine dont make a huge noise when they lay, not like the leghorns
Pekinout, how did your hatch go? I'm waiting for 16, they have started to pip today |

Over-run with the little blighters, just hatched 30 odd with more in the incy:)
Sooo much character, my boys keep a few and we have just bought some more colours. Great fun to crossbreed as they throw some truly amazing colours and patterns out:) |

Bronski, I had a power cut the last week of incubation, plus the eggs had been thru the post, so only ended up with 8 pekins and the poot out of all those eggs. I thought they would all be dead after the powercut, so I'm grateful some of them survived that.
I've got 3 black/red, and one citrus or porcelain sable poot.
The others are a mystery til they feather up, think there's one lavendar, one lemon cuckoo, one millefleur, one blue, and not sure what the other one will be.
Got another dozen going in incy this w/end. 6 each of gold partridge and 6 silver partridge. |
