Yes - I was at Angela's when she got the call to say the calf had arrived - all 2 of it!

Great to see they arrived safely!

You do realise the fertility implications of heifers born twin to a bull don't you?

Megan has been destined to be beef since the second she landed on the straw following her brother itsy, we'll just make sure that its dern good beef that goes with the tatties & 2 veg.

hamish, we will give him a go, the reduced fertility may not be a problem given that we intend to let him run with his girls from early summer onwards, if it takes a few covers for him to fire a live one, so be it, if it doesnt work... Beef again.

But.... We are A.I with mum this year & if we manage to throw a bull calf from this.... It stays... Hamish fills the freezer.

Mum was only meant to have one calf, getting 2 was a bonus ! and fully worth it for the fun i have watching them caper arround lol.

Phew - thank goodness for that.

Hamish will be fine, there is a chance that as a twin he will not grow to his expected full size, but even so he has the breeding there to be able to pass on the right genes, he shouldn't have reduced fertility because of it. It was Megan I was concerned about.

We had twin calves from one of our South Devons this year-bull and heifer- but as the cow had lost a bull calf last year I felt it was just nature replacing what had been lost and was pretty chuffed.
A neighbour has, so he says, had several sets of twins from his pedigree AA where the heifers have gone on to breed, and we have had single born, top notch heifers that we've had hell of a job to get in calf. We now have a system worked out that seems to work for the difficult ones Very Happy
After the terrible calving season we had this year I feel a live calf even if infertile is better than a dead one Laughing

Probably why we dont make any money at it Laughing

opposite twin heifers have a very very rare chance of being *normal* but it has been known.

Hamish isnt going to be a big bull anyways due to his breedings, he isnt off the huge english strains of AA, he's traditional AA.
