I'd love to see some pics of your marans and cream legbars, rowingbeau.
Are the 12 birds hens or do you have cocks as well? |

Hi, Yes I will post a picture when I have the chickens.... don't pick them up yet as they are only 8 weeks.... want to get them in about 3 weeks time when we have the run erected and everything ready.
They are all hens by the way - we may breed later if we feel we are ready for that.
Very excited about getting them and our daughter is naming them already!

Parker (coq) and Lopey (hen) are 4 weeks tomorrow.
These photos were taken 2 days ago. Not great photos, but would be interested to hear how they are looking

| Does anyone on here keep, or have pictures of, the bantam cream legbar? I've heard they exist but I've never seen any or heard of anybody keeping them. Are they a bit of a rarity? |

I started a thread on the Practical poultry Forum, but I have just looked and it seems to have disappeared. basically the reply was they do not exist. however others may prove me wrong.
Pictures of my cream legbars, any comments on conformation with breed welcome.
these were taken at about 4 weeks |

What colour eggs did they come from, Harriet? Do you know the parentage, too? I'm no expert, but from my experience, I'd say the top one is no way CLB, the bottom one looks right, though.
Will pop out and see if I can photograph mine. |

They both look right to me Harrier. Its a quirk of autosexing breeds that the males get a double dose of the barring gene so it is more pronounced on them than on the females.
They both have yellow legs so no problems, I'd have thought. |

OK, here are mine.
This is Tweety - my CLB hen who is about 11 months old.
This is the CLB x Welsummer coq, 17 weeks old.
And this is the 8-week-old CLB x Welsummer hen - she wasn't impressed by the photoshoot, and after this one, she disappeared deep into the rhododendron bush and refused to come back out!!

This is my pair of CLB's, coq is from my May hatch, and the hen from Mojo's May hatch.
Again, not a great photo from my mobile. |

we've just bought some month old cream legbars today. they're all quite dark - would a boy stick out like a sore thumb at this age?
will post photo's when i can.

If you look at the poor quality photo above you can see they are very different. Boys are much lighter and have a sort of chequered pattern. Girls are darker with a lightish stripe down their back.
Hope that helps. |
