...that you can buy to stop boiled eggs bangng around when you boil them? I have a very vague recollection of something, but we didn't used to eat many eggs previously so never paid it much attention.
(we haven't even got any egg cups!...its on my birthday list!) |

Turn the heat down They only need to simmer, not fast boil. Put enough water in the pan to half cover the eggs, put a lid on (keeps in the heat so you don't use as much energy boiling them) bring them to the boil, turn the heat to low, time them, 2 and a half to 3 minutes depending on how you like them and how big the eggs are.
To perfectly hard boil eggs cover them with water, put a lid on, bring them to the boil, turn the heat off and go away and forget them for a while.

I read that you boil water, TURN OFF the heat, put the egg in cover and leave for 3 mins....works a treat with mine for soft boil |

That must be for bantie eggs Clucky - we have an egg each for breakfast every day (I know, shouldn't etc) and it needs 5 1/2 minutes at simmer to be soft boiled

I checked this out with a dietitian I was working with. Apparently the whole eggs and cholesterol thing is a bit of a myth. Eggs ARE full of cholesterol, but it is cholesterol which is considered to be good, and doesn't affect the cholesterol levels sat in our veins clogging them up...that's a different type of cholesterol altogether...apparently! She told me that one egg a day is fine.

I agree 100% with you Kated. My first attempt was for 5 minutes and some of the white was still a little bit runny....which made me very squeamish and put me off eating it at all. We did them for 5 1/2 mins yesterday and they were perfect. Hummm, yummy. |
