I know that poultry litter is good for composting and use in the veg. garden
but
what about chick litter and the anti-coccidiosis stuff that chick crumbs contain, might it be a problem ?
How long would it persist if it is thought to be a problem ?

I'm thinking of scattered crumbs in the litter and/or that which has passed through the chicks !

Considering your compost heap should be active for no less than a year (if you do it the real old fashioned way like we do) & builds up a good ole heat in the process, coccidiosis shouldnt survive the peak composting period, the temps in a well maintained heap would be enough to see to that.

Yes, very old-fashioned ! I do both hot composting and long duration shredded-leaf-mold type sometimes with "household liquid activator" Wink

as per HDRA etc.
But also I do mulching with the stuff as well.

Thanks for the quick reply, I wasn't thinking ( had not thought of ) the coccidiosis itself, good point, thanks, all noted.

What I was thinking of was the anti-cocc. antibiotics (? ) chemicals (?) googling on the stuff at the mo. as well. And the persistence and/or uptake of those by my veggies and fruit bushes.

Hmmm.... I wonder.. I know that the antibiotic stuff loses potency after its expiration date so I do wonder how long once it's passed through the chick and composted how long it takes for it to be 'defunct'...
