My brother use to work for the CEGB, Central Electricity Generating Board and he was in control of the stock room and he got hold of a light stick...its a chemical inside so when you bend the stick the chemical mixes with another chemical...and it glows green.
Anyway, picture this...its dark outside and my brother goes out with the light stick and a sheet...he then covers himself in the sheet and stands outside the shower room window of the next door neighbours, breaks the light stick and hey presto, a green glowing ghost appears through the distorted glass of the shower room window, with moans to add emphasis. We had thin walls in that house and all our family were in hysterics as we heard our neighbour shouting and screaching at the top of her voice from the shower room that there was a ghost outside
Classic!
Btw my brother never grew out of the dressing up either...he moved abroad to Tenerife, bought a pub "The Original Wigan Pier" and once a week use to get all the staff to dress up, including himself and his wife and they would have a theme night....renowned throughout the area as the best place to be. |

Hi Clucky,
I'm new to growing my own ...in fact any sort of gardening! too and I'm making an effort this year. This Shrewsbury clay soil is great, isn't it! We also have impressive amounts of very prolific weeds.
I've probably got far more seed than I need here so I'm more than happy to share some with you, I've definitely got spare seed of tomatoes, peppers, chillies, probably runner beans, squashes (3 different varieties)...also seed potatoes. I bought 1kg each of 5 different varieties so if you are looking to plant just a few of different varieties I'd be happy for you to take some of these. I know the books say the first earlies should have been planted in march but I don't trust the weather around here to plant anything quite that early.
Let me know if you want anything. Seems stupid to have spare seed and not share it! |

I heard potatoes are supposed to help break up a clay soil. That & the frost. |
