I have moved the hens run to a new location in the garden and I am left with a nice bare patch of soil that the chicks have pecked/scratched clear of all vegetation.
I was wondering if this would be a good place to grow onions - would the soil be suitably manured by the chicks or too rich (the run has been there about 6 months)? |

Sounds fine, but watch out if there is a lot of manure in it as this needs a good few months to rot down otherwise it will be too rich. to speed up the process you could cover it with black plastic. Anything that requires a rich soil would do well. |

Onions like a rich freshly matured soil, just select your onions right, the bigger bulbed variety would excel as it takes a lot of ompff in the soil to get them to standard.
