| Until he's weaned he'll be in a garage/garden/yard area but then he's off to a livery yard because they have lots of facilities for training - a school, quiet hacks etc. |

went to see a load of calves today - holsteins and shorthorn and Xbreed calves. they were all sucking my jumper and looking very cute - cant wait to take mine home. i didnt pick today because i havent quite got a job yet and i dont want to take one until i have a steady income, just in case.
i cant decide which colour - i can choose white, red and white, black and white or roan....they;re all as pretty as each other! |

I have bucket-fed calves. It's not usually too hard to get them to drink, usually harder to get your fingers from out of their mouths after tho!
If you manage to get their heads into a bucket and let them suck the milk off your fingers, keep lowering your hand into the milk as they suck, you will be able to prise your fingers back out and, hey presto, they will get the hang of it! good luck |

| Thanks for that - the farm have offered to keep him until he;s weaned - this woul eb more convenient but i worry i;m missing out on 8 weeks of socialisation time....the calves were all friendly enough though and I've spoken to some oxey people in america and australia who seem to think it would be ok so....I'll probably get him as a weanling? |
