We just had our first pig slaughtered last night and butchered today Sad

It's been a bit strange for me - I've been vegetarian for 24 years, but I knew all along that the boar was to be fattened up for meat, and we didn't make a pet of it.

The local lad who did the deed cannot understand why MOH wanted the skin for crackling, and MOH cant understand why Stefan wants the head and other unmentionables which he considers normal to eat Shocked .

There also seems to be far a lot of 'celebrating the pig's life' going on! A trip to the village hall to return some large pots resulted in 2 hours at the bar (why wasn't I invited?) and at every opportunity, another beer is cracked open to toast the lovely life our pig had Rolling Eyes . And I suppose it did have a lovely life Crying or Very sad

Are you going to eat any of the meat BC?

I think if you have looked after him really well why let somebody else have the pleasure of eating him. Its never easy to have an animal killed but if thats the purpose for keeping it, I agree with you, give it a good life and dont make a fuss when the time comes for it to go.

In 12months time my little Highland boy will be ready to go and altho he has had the same care as the others he has been beef from the moment he was born and OH called out 'bull calf'.

Being veggie, I wont eat the meat, but MOH will. He had some of the sausages he made with friends this evening and apparently they were very tasty.
