My white leghorn who was at POL in May (was laying about 5 eggs/ week) has not laid a normal egg for 15 days now. She laid a very small egg with no yolk about 12 days ago and when I went to eat the last normal sized egg she laid 15 days ago that had no yolk. She seems happy enough, eating well. She is free ranging but I have looked and can't find an egg. She goes into the nest box each morning for an hour, rearranges her straw into a nest but still no egg! If she was egg bound would she be sick?

Sounds like she's just laid her quota for this batch. Many pure breeds stop laying in August and it's possible she may moult now and of course won't lay until the new feathers are all re-grown. On the other hand she might just be having a break and will start again in a few weeks.

Sorry me again just worrying that Ruby is ok. Since the original post she has laid a mini egg with no yolk but today she has laid what I thought was an apricot but was actually an egg yolk. I don't mind her giving me no eggs but I would like to be reassured thats she's ok. She looks fine!

They can have 'hiccups' in the egg laying process at anytime, so to get the odd egg occasionally is quite 'normal' if you see what I mean!
If they consistantly lay strange ones then that may be an indication of other problems. Wink
