Lovely Henwife brought me a tray of pears from her orchard last time she visited Very Happy
I've got a couple of dozen left and they're ripening rapidly, any suggestions?

Can't better that list Laughing Laughing

I would peel, quarter & poach in a spicy sugar syrup and then probably bottle them (in decent sized jam jars) - put them & juice in jars boiling hot, wipe rims & put the lid on, modern jam jar lids will reseal - they will "pop" as the liquid cools and contracts and forms a vacuum.

The alcohol ones sound good, but I don't drink Confused Confused

The alcohol one sounds fab, but I got drunk on pear flavoured Thunderbird years ago and it put me right off puke
I'll puree half and poach the rest - thanks both Very Happy

lol, I don't know what varieties they are but I have one full tree not picked yet, so if anyone wanted to come and help themselves (and don't have vertigo) please let me know, it would be a shame for them to go to waste.

the pears haven't done so well or maybe the previous owner harvested them all before he moved out!

(hmmm.... Mum has a big conference pear tree.... Whistle Wink )

Mojo - do I need to peel them for the pear liquer? And do I add any sugar? Just asking as I did add sugar with the sloe gin, but I guess pears are so much sweeter its probably not needed, unless I want it really sweet and syrupy...

wash and dry ,cut into quarters remove pips and add vodka...dont sweeten till strained......then to taste ( use sugar syrup 4 ozs warmish water with as much sugar as will dissolve in it)but it is usual for a liquer to be sweeter than wine................then serve a shot in a glass filled with chilled white wine............for those with a low alcholic intrest......use iced water
