Call us mad fools but we're doing our own catering for wedding in October. Given that OH is only in part-time work & I'm a student low-cost is the plan.
So far we're planning poss two hot choices & the rest finger food.
Hot choices- sausage hotpot
tomato & basil pasta
Now if I could get some quick & easy suggestions from any kind people would be grateful as brain getting a bit frazzled with making favours, invites etc as well as starting new college course. |

Mojo love the idea of apple slices & sweet puree as well as cheese twists.
We have the added issue of having a vegetarian & several people with high cholesterol issues that we have to obviously allow for. However time is also a factor as only got 1/2 half hour before start of reception to prepare (including decorating hall), a 2 hour slot serving food & clearing it away -due to food hygiene stipulations & then party. |

Good God woman, you've set yourself a massive challenge
Have lifted this entire thread from Total France forum. I haven't read it again, yet I recall there were some lovely picnic/buffet ideas and mostly all prepared in advance. Hope they are helpful

I did a big wedding buffet a couple of years ago and roasted 3 BIG joints of beef. I South Devon, 1 Angus and 1 Highland. Everyone carved their own and voted for the beef they liked the best. Most of the guests were breeders of beef cattle so it proved great fun with them all trying to work out which was which and trying to vote for their own breed.
The Highland joint won hands down |

| I did my daughters cheated a bit and bought a fish platter the local seafood place does brilliant ones they do online orders too but they are not ready displayed on a bed of salad on a platter( Ramus of Harrogate) then I did a joint of Beef and ham, homemade pate, dead easy and cheap to make as was the homemade bread buns various quiches ,salads ,sherry trifle and fresh fruit salad, most important used disposable plates etc as no dishwasher at our venue did use proper glasses though and as we were forewarned brought champagne and wine back from France including a non alcoholic fizz for the kids made favours too choc for kids and almonds for adults all for very little cost pm me if you need more info Good luck G |

Thanks everyone.
We've got some large stockpots which will do for preparing the two hot choices. Am already have strange dreams about the reception but not about the food which I feel oddly calm about
5 weeks on Friday so we are starting stocking up on things we can freeze or prepare ahead now. |

Probably way to late for you and plans are under way....congrats by the way
We had a Jacobs Join....we had been living together before hand so we didn't really need material things, so we asked everyone to bring a bit of food to make up to 4 portions.
WOW you should have seen the table....a wonderful mixture and anyone with a special diet, ie siliac could bring their own. We had all sorts including a fully dressed salmon!
Just an idea but will save you a bit of money and hard work...and people find it much easier than trying to find a pressie
In saying that we also had a clown, a bbq in the evening, a concert performance in the afternoon, a rose garden wedding with a didgeridoo piping us in and out and myrtle to hand out to guests as they left the rose garden as sign of friendship and love..... Oh and no suits allowed, t-shirts and jeans all round
I think my real calling is for alternative weddings.....I loved it. ..even my ex inlaws came and were in tears they thought it was so lovely....
ooops hogged your posting....sorry. Have a lovely day...and I hope we get to see some great pics |

Well all change to only a buffet as fiance can't contemplate having to heat hot choice on the day.
Mojo got a pack of apples to try out the slices idea.
My mum is coming round next week & from showing no interest was curiously interested in how many folk we were having. Nice if she helps but depends if she tries changing things - her usual but means well. |
