Hello local poultry keepers!
I go away for two to three weekends a year and always feel awkward asking neighbours to pop in and check on my chickens.
I live in Cranfield between Milton Keynes and Bedford and was wondering if there was anyone fairly local to me who has the same problem... if so, would you like to do a swap - i.e. I would pop in and feed your chickens and check they are alright if you would do the same for me?
I have a VSB automatic door opener so there's no need to worry about locking up at night etc. I should have about a dozen chooks by the summer. A once a day visit to feed and change the water would be ideal for me.
I would be happy to swap on a day for day basis...
Any offers? If so, please PM me and perhaps we can have a chat and arrange something.

Hi Tim,
I would love to help out, I'm only in Milton Keynes, however I usually go back to Brissie for the summer months, so I may not be any use. I would suggest you ofer your neighbours the eggs they collect while they are checking them..most neihgbours would love that!!
If you dont get any more offers of help, pm me and I'll see if I can be of any help.
I'm going to Brissie on Friday till the 17th April so I may be a little slow at replying to any messages. |

Hi Aussie Chick,
Yes, the offer of eggs seems fair but they are very busy people and I've had a few comments made and I'm not sure they see why I bother keeping Chickens...
I've PM'ed you, have a great trip.

| Timbo, maybe if you could give an idea of which months you might be taking weekends, it might help people to offer to help. |

Well, trouble is it varies. It's normally when I go back to Wales to visit my parents for the weekend. It's normally 2 to 3 weekends per year that I have problems.
I can usually give lots of notice and can normally be flexible about which weekend I go.
Aussie Chick is fairly local and is going to contact me on her return so I'm probably just about covered...
I can always ask the neighbours as a last resort.
Sorry I can't be more specific... It's most likely Winter and Spring I guess because in the summer there's too much to do with the garden and greenhouse.
Thanks again,
Tim |

You don't want to be specific on a public board Tim ~ no pint letting every bad person know when the house is unoccupied.
Hope it works well for you.
You know what .... there are lots of lovely chickens to be had around the south Wales area. |

| No, I wouldn't be. There are lots of houses in Cranfield thank goodness.. Lots of Chicks in Wales - are there now? No, I mustn't... I've got some eggs to hatch, then that's me full! |

Hi Timbo
I live in Wilstead, Beds a bit far away to come over every day, but have a friend of a friend who lives in Cranfield. I can ask them if you like. |

Hi misskiwi,

Update: the neighbour dropped a package around this morning - and my wife said we had a cockerel now - the reply was Ohhh horrible things what an earth do you want that for...
