I think they look lovely too. Do you breed them and if you do can you tell about the breed please?

They originate from switzerland, they are quite flighty birds, not that big, but lay fairly large eggs for the size of them.
The hens don't tend to go broody
I love them, they are really stunning to look at.

hello thats me(rosie pointer)......they are my gold appenzellas..they are lovely birds and lay white eggs.

they have 'tina turner' hairdo's and are great characters....they are 3 1/2 years old and i have never had a moments problem with them(touch wood ) Wink

ooo i did'nt know you did either, they are funny little birds aren't they, i only got the cockeral about 3 months ago and they don't know whats hit them after being on their own for so long Shocked

Would somebody please tell me how soon Appenzellers can be sexed. The two 7 week ones that I have - one gold, one silver - are delightful, but need to be pullets. At present they think they're Cream Legbars.

Oh dear. Mine hatched on January 26th. Apart from the fact that the silver has redder wattles than the gold they are not much help. After the Cream Legbar crowed and terrified the rest of them, they just make contented fowl noises.

the gold roos are darker than the girl on the neck
IIRC last year when I hatched the silvers the roos were lighter
