A dual purpose bird which comes in a number of colours. The barred variety is the basis for all the auto sexing breeds. They are slow to feather, and don't hatch with yellow legs - in fact the hatchlings looks very similar to cuckoo marans for some time. Despite thier slow start, they mature early and have a good reputation as winter layers of large tinted eggs.
