Hi there,
just a short update for all of you from our little flock (1 whitestar, 1 bovans nera, 1 buttercup). We've been getting an egg a day for the last 2 weeks from one of them - we think its the bovans nera laying (all brown eggs and she's the biggest of our ladies). Over the last few days we've had the odd egg without any shell whatsoever and came home yesterday to 1 moster egg (80plus grams) and two shell-less (?) Should we be sending them on a little holiday or are they just a little over-eggsited and not sure how to do this yet ???
Whitestar is still not laying and still sneezing but is eating fine and hasn't been getting worse. The other 2 aren't affected. We'll be getting our next 2 gals (1 maran cuivree, 1 bluebelle) tonight - hope they'll get on with each other....
Photies will be on their way soon - unfortunately I am still in the dinosaur era here re: digital photography...

Hi Ramshackle
My layer - Willow did exactly the same thing - an eye wateringly big egg followed by 2 soft shelled ones , over the course of the next month she did a few more soft shelled ones but now seems to have settled down to laying 'normal' ones .

I'm sure they will sort out their egg-laying soon.
It's only very occasionally you get a hen that lays one like that every time (I know because we had one a few years ago! ) so don't worry unless it keeps on happening. |
