My mongrel hens are now about 3 months or so old, the nights are getting longer, they go to bed very early and I dont want to install a lighting system - might just as well buy eggs. So - they're pet hens. Any chance of any of the four producing anything, anytime?

Yeah....dont worry too much....Ive got one who must be about 6 mnths now and still nothing !!! Sad
When they start theyll be no stopping them !! How are the wattle & combs looking ???

I dont know what to look for - they seem to be mid-red, neither too pale, then again, not scarlet. One is a speckeldy black, the others are varying from white to half and half RIR - all sisters, mother RIR, the hussy.

no - quite small, but I thought it was only the cockerels who got the big dangly ones - that is, until I read a previous post. THAT surprised me!

Mr Chickens dangley bits get REALLY big....Mrs Chooks get quite big Wink .....I know its frustrating, but theyll lay eventually ! Can u post a pic ?

Sorry - like the chickens, I dont have the equipment - to post pictures, that is. Tomorrow I'm buying my grandson a digital camera - perhaps he'll do it for me. My camera is still film based, and it costs a fortune to get piccies in suitable nick for PC posting. One day ...
