Hi I'm new to the site and new to being a chicken owner too. A week ago I bought two 24 week old, a Speckled Star and a Bluebell hen. Then two days later I bought two 8 week olds, an Isa Brown and a Black Rock. The Black Rock is the smallest and the most timid and is getting pecked by the two older hens. They sleep together with no pecking but outside they get her every time she is near to them. She is eating but not as much as the others. Has anyone any advice? Am I being to anxious as it is early days still. Shall I just let them sort it out amongst themselves?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Debra

Welcome to the friendly forum debra Very Happy .

I don't put my "growers" in with the hens till they are about 12 weeks old so if they were mine I would separate the 2 younger ones from the older ones and keep them near (so they can see each other), till they are a bit older and big enough to look out for themselves. I know this may be difficult if room won't allow but something as simple as netting down the middle of the coop and run would help for a few weeks. It is also wise to keep birds not from the same flock apart for a while to make sure they are not carrying any disease that could be passed on. Hope this helps!

I agree with Chris. Very Happy You should separate them for a while. Wink

Thanks for the advice. Since I posted that she's been totally accepted by the others and is feeding with them BUT I now have another problem... my best (and only) layer has been sneezing for a few days.javascript:emoticon('Sad')
She's feeding and still laying.
Her nostrils are runny but her eyes aren't. What can I do for her?
