|
|
I have just returned from a trip to B&Q and thought I'd let everyone know about a good buy.
They are seeling a large garden chest made of wood with lift up lid that, with a little work, will make a great hen house, especially for bantams. It has 15% off and is £65. This chest is larger that thier so called hen house and a third of the price. For someone wanting something bigger they have a wooden bike storage shed for £85 (I think). I cant see the chest online so looks like you'd have to go the store.
Hubby is just going to pick ours up (couldn't get in car with wheelchair) and will be busy converting it later. Will post a pic of the results.

yay!
Our hen house is a converted homebase wheely bin shed that was missing bits and broken they sold us for £15 and the rest of it is old pallets, my old chilhood wardrobe and an old double pine bed!!
So far all we have had to buy is the wheely bin £15 shed and roofing felt...
Bargains are brilliant and I'm sure my ex bats who will be here in 3 and a bit weeks will love it.... i hope!!! |

Well, the new coop is coming on great. I painted all the pieces yesterday as wanted to make sure they were ready for a Norfolk winter
Hubby has been busy making the panels for the run and some perches.
We have decided to use the chest with the 'back' as the front and as the 'front' has split panels (so you could open from there if you did not want top opening) we are going to put hinges in the bottom half for easy access for cleaning/egg collection.
As it is for my young araucanas we will add nest boxes later.
Rain is slowing things down today, but hope to have it up and running in a few days.
Watch this space for photos.

Thanks pekinout
I have to admit hubby has done a good job (but dont tell him that)
Just dropped a big hint that he needs to extend the guinea pig run as well, so think I need to be nice to him
Hoping to get it up and outside by weekend, will post some more pics then.

| I take it you got it out of the garage? My Dad once built a gate, and had to saw it in half to get it out of the shed. |

Thankfully hubby had sense just to balance run panels to make sure all OK. The garage is a double one and getting the coop out was no problem, carrying it was the worst bit and I think hubby and daughter had some fun getting up the garden
The growers spent their first night in their new coop (and outside) last night, after living in the garage. They all seem OK and love the new freedom. Will try and post some photos later (my laptop crashed other day and online on old. slow one at moment ).
