Someone has been eating the crayfish out of the river and just leaving the remains on the bank like this...
Now, who could it be? I know we have herons but are they able to be this surgical and just leave a pair of claws?
If I didn't know better I'd think mink but we don't have any here.

| Otters would be my guess, which would be fantastic, and would also mean there wouldn't be any mink aroung within five miles! unfortunately, otters are very hard to spot as they're so shy, but if you hide down wind from where you found the crayfish remains, you might get lucky and see one! but please take your camera as i for one would love to see them! mink are evil creatures with only one preditor, apart from man, and that's otters!, and i would have thought that crayfish wouldn't be their first choice of menu food, and of course where as a mink will attack your chickens, an otter wouldn't so fingers crossed for you the visitors are the wonderful otter! |

| Looks like an otter midden, think that's the word. Lucky you. If they are around they tend to use the same spot for eating, so leave the site alone, hide downwind and prepare for a treat.....!!! |
