I put the 10 newbies in with the others 2 nights ago, they seem to be getting on well but refusing to go to bed!!! My set up is - a 100' x 60' run which has 2 coops in it, 1 is a large converted summerhouse and the other a big (10 - 15 hen size) coop that is off the floor with a 3 way boxed in cover underneath and a 9' run attatched at the front (this run is open all day but shut up at night for extra security). I really want them in the big house as the smaller coop is full but thewy keep huddling under it instead of going back in the converted house. We have had fun the last 2 nights catching them and putting them in with the 10 in the big house but they insist on sleeping under the small one. I normally free range the hens during the day but can't untill these new one know where they live. I had thought of making some sort of pen to put at the front of the big house so they can't get under the other one and have to go in the big one - BUT, that will mean the existing occupants will be penned with them instead of being with their friends from the small house! HELP!!!!!

Cant you fence off the underneath of the one on legs so they have to go into one of the houses? Or is the access ladder under there?

We have rigged up a run to go outside the big house, when they have huddled underneath the small house we will catch them and put them in the big house, tomorrow morning they will only be able to come out of the pophole into this run and - viola! - they will have no choice but to go where I want them tomorrow night Laughing. It will mean the others that are already in residence in the big house will be behind bars for a few days but, hopefully, it won't be for long.
