Hi
I noticed blood amongst all the poo in the chicken coup today. One of my chickens has always had runny poo regardless of the fact that I worm them. This time there was blood amongst it.
As a whole, the chicken doesn't seem that ill although she hasn't been out much today and she's eating and drinking well.
what should I do?
Pete

Could be coccidiosis. I would start them on some oregano first thing tomorrow - dried mixed into the food, you may need to moisten the pellets to make it stick, will do to start with. It is easier to get some Ropadiar or Herban and stick it in the water at the recommended dose. Dandelion leaves are also helpful.
Have you got a decent vet for poultry? If so I would take them some droppings and get them to check for coccidia levels, my specialist poultry vet does the check while you wait included in the cost of a consultation. If not then try Retford Poultry Vets who do a mail service.

| definitely get the poop tested for coccidiosis - I've also been reading recently about ulcerative enteritis which can cause similar symptoms to cocci - but the test will let you know which treatment route to take. |
