| Got 2 Brahma bantams with chicks, it's their first time. One lot are now a week old and mum number one has been bringing her babies out for a few days now - either in the ark run or into the net run i have put up for them. Mum number two has 4 day old chicks and she hasn't brought them out of the nest yet. I've put food and water just outside the pophole but she won't bring them out - i got worried and put some food and water back in the ark. Will she bring them out eventually or should I be more insistant and lock them out for a while? My last broody had her chicks out the day after hatch and so did mum number one. Both mums ahve separate arks and runs and separate net runs. Trying to get photos of the new chicks but both mums are being very protective and as soon as i get the camera out the chicks disappear under wings! |

| Some broodies keep their chicks to themselves for longer than others. Just be sure there is food and water within reach. Four days does seem rather excessive, but if the chicks seem OK, don't worry. If you shut them outside with her she might panic.....she's a new Mum after all. |

.
Put her and her chicks in the net run this morning whilst I cleaned the nest out (managed this photo before the rain) -- she decided that it was quite nice outside and I had to persuade her that keeping her chicks out in the rain wasn't a good idea . She is now sat with them in the covered ark run pecking the grass quite happily - I bet we have to persuade her to go to be d tonight, the contrary madam . |
