Advice please.......these are the 2 Buff Chinese Geese babies (and the tiny one is supposed to be a crele pekin )
Can anyone tell me why one is coloured like a mallard and the other like an embden when they are both supposed to be out of Buff Chinese?????
Also, does anyone know what a crele chick should look like as so far I have one yellow and one black pekin chick and they are supposed to be crele............
They are all very sweet though

Found this about Chinese Geese, is it any help?
(There are two color varieties of Chinese geese, brown and white. The original variety is a rich brown and fawn, accented by a dark, russet-brown neck stripe. In mature birds, the glossy black bill and knob are separated from the main head plumage by a narrow band of creamy-white feathers. The shanks and feet are brownish orange or dark orange and the eyes brown. The white variety has blue eyes, pure white plumage, and bright orange feet, knobs and bills. While goslings of white European breeds are mainly gray with yellow trim, the down of day-old White Chinese is a bright canary yellow )
So by going on the above, I'd say the yellow gosling is the white variety and the other one the brown variety.
With Embdens the ones with the grey fluff on the back were male, I think, and all yellow were female. Or the other way round lol it was a long time ago, anyway, if that applies to chinese geese, maybe that's why you got one yellow one and one grey one?????
I think creole or crele pekin chicks should be sort of gingery with a greyish tinge on the body. I've got one of those in my latest hatch. |

Well thats very interesting, thanks very much for that pekinout
The Chinese are supposed to be from the Brown, not white so unless one is a throw-back, then they have both colour varieties
with the pekin, the majority have hatched (well, those that have hatched) are dark in colour. The only gingery one is the one pictured, the rest (6 in total) are dark So do you think I've been sold creles which arent actually creles All the eggs had crele written on them but you do tend to get suspicious when a batch of pure colour eggs hatches different coloured chicks............
Still, they are pekins and they will be loved regardless |

I wouldnt like to say the dark ones aren't creles, cos never had a crele chick myself til now.
Did you get the eggs on Ebay? I know some on there have mixed colour flocks and when you buy say 'buff' eggs they come out all colours.
Could be it's that, or the parents aren't from pure colour lines.
Some people aren't that fussy about breeding birds, and don't know their breeding history.
Whatever they are, as you say, they'll be loved. |

Yes I bought them off eBay, they were "buy it now" eggs. The pic was of a cockerel and 2 chicks. Have just looked it up and the chicks in her pics are black with paler patches. Thats what mine look like too (except for the gingery one ) So I suppose I'm none the wiser!! |

This is Jam after being rescued from his/her shell - mum rolled it out of the nest and walked on it so I had to move it PDQ to the incubator
Jam is on the left with elder brother/sister at 21 days

| Sorry - cannot help you there - we only have the brown ones 2 females + Gus and this was their first go at breeding - next year I will take the eggs and hatch as she sat on 12 - hatched 2 stood on one and Jam I had to rescue, I think her sister got jealous and interfered too much - tried to separate them but all hell let loose. |

No, I dont think so, she has brown eyes. I think she is an error They have been sunbathing in the garden with me (well, they were sunbathing, I was being molested ) they werent happy unless they were asleep on me they are gorgeous though They make me laugh the way they just fall asleep and then whiffle away to themselves |
