I went in to Hereford this morning with some hatching eggs. Before going, I had emptied an incubator into the hatcher. I have come home with a tray of 30 unidentified hatching eggs - varied shades of supermarket brown - but @ 50p a dozen who could resist. Oh, and I did buy a very young Welbar cockerel from somebody who'd bought all three trios, and he was the best of the welbars anyway. Both the isolation cages are ocupied by growers so he's residing in the biggest cat carrier for the time being. He's a bit young to be out on his own anyway.

Me? Practical and careful? I just can't resist a bargain, and nobody else bid for them.
When my parents lived in Pentrellyncymmer I used to come north quite frequently.

I've 10 2 week old chicks in the living room, 2 broodies sitting on 6 eggs apiece and another hen just gone broody. I am so tempted to give her some eggs but I'm running out of space, I've no broody cage for her and I've even got to build another coop for the chicks I already have (and will, hopefully, be) - what a waste, anyone want a broody hen? Hereford is the first and third Wednesday of the month (also the 5th if there is one). But......they have a pure breed sale on July 5th which is a Saturday. Oh, and there's one in Ross on June 14th.

50p a dozen? I think you can be forgiven for your "moment of weakenss" Henwife! Laughing Even if they're "only" fit for table birds, it's a real bargain!!
