Question.

Squeak (bantam) the cockerel is very fertile, he is even lucky with Hattie my Orp. I have no doubts with his ability in using a ladder to achieve his goal Laughing

I have this last two months have had him in with my two large fowl TNNs in a separate run. Fertility is hit and miss. Any ideas? I did wonder if it was because they are very flighty, do not duck for him to climb on that much and they have no neck feathers for him to hang on.... Do you reckon the odds are against him? For their size they only lay slightly larger than pekin eggs.

If so, I may have to rethink my plan and switch to a different breed to x with Squeak and rehome the girls.

Awe Bless. I'd have said about trimming the feathers round the bum but TNN's tend to have quite a lack of feathering down under anyway lol
Bless him, He's at least trying, Maybe it's a case of once he gets the hang of it and finding the right trick, he could just get there lol
I have a Naked Neck hen called Buffy, She's huge bless and we have a Bantam polish cockeral who really tried and one day figured it out. He gives them a treat like a worm or juicey fat slug, they will sit down for him to get on lol

If he has produced any females from this cross, I would put him onto the pullets when they are laying thus bringing down the size by selective breeding Very Happy

My TNN bantam has no problem with his bantam wives - it's unusual to have an infertile egg. That said, I've never 'caught him in the act' as it were. I seen him go through all the preliminaries, but have to guess that he grabs the toupee for balance. Possibly LF TNNs have too much NN for a bantam cock.
Out of curiosity I put a marans bantam in with them and hatched some of the eggs.......little black pullets with bibs, but no fully feathered necks.

I think it is the NN that is the problem, hit and miss I think sadly. The NN is a dominant gene isn't it, your "experiment" sounds lovely.

Well I may be looking at rehoming these two for just egg laying capacity then. Crying or Very sad
