Well the fox that got my chickens left 2 headless birds, I left them in the open coop, thinking that the fox would return for them. 3 days later and they were still there.
I'm sure foxes eat carrion, and if it killed them and left them be day before surely I'd come back to collect..?
I don't understand.. |

Fox may have been run over or otherwise dispatched......
IME it is typical for a fox to bite the head off its prey and leave it for later - actually watched (through binoculars) a fox beheading a rabbit and leaving partially covered up for later recovery. |

I'm in suburbia, I know there are foxes around as I've seen and smelled them - couldn't smell any fox around the garden but I assume I wouldn't unless it'd peed or something.
I was thinking (hoping) that the fox has somehow been removed from the vicinity but without staying up all night for a few nights to check I don't think I can be sure about that.
I'll just have to try and make everything even more super secure and keep my fingers crossed I don't lose any more. The sussex are going to have an outhouse building as their coop so they should certainly be secure at night! |

| usually a fox will return and take them one by one and bury them for a later date maybe it knows you are watching?or maybe somebody else has disturbed it? |

Maybe -
Well there are bones all over the garden now for the dog, so if none of those disappear I'll assume the fox is no longer visiting - won't make me any less diligent about locking the chicks up though - I definitely don't want a repeat performance. |
